Paying for fuel in TURO

Responsibilities

You’re responsible for documenting fuel levels and replacing the fuel in your host’s vehicle. Be sure to do the following:

  • Take pictures of the fuel gauge before and after your trip.
  • Replace the fuel and return the vehicle with the same level of gas or electric charge it had at the start of your trip.
  • When you replace the gas, get and keep a receipt for at least 5 days as proof of refueling. Be sure the receipt shows:
    • date
    • time
    • price per gallon
    • number of gallons
    • total cost

Reimbursements

If you don’t replace the fuel in your host’s vehicle, they’re entitled to reimbursement for fuel costs. Below is a list of charges and timelines for host fuel reimbursement requests.

  • If you don’t replace the gas, your host can request reimbursement for their cost to replace the gas plus a $10 convenience fee.
  • If you return an electric vehicle with less of a charge than it had when you received it, your host may charge you $10-$20.
  • You’re responsible for any Tesla Supercharger and Idle fees incurred during the trip.
  • If you left the car plugged in at a charging station, you’re responsible for those costs up to 24 hours after the trip ends.
  • Hosts have up to 72 hours after your trip ends to request reimbursement
  • Once we notify you of the request, you have up to 72 hours to pay or dispute it.

If you’ve purchased prepaid refueling as an Extra, your host can’t request a reimbursement, and you can’t request a refund on fuel you didn’t use.
