Frequently asked questions

  • I want to book a car that has an age restriction. I’ll be the required age when the trip starts. Can I book the car now?
You must be the required age for a vehicle at the time that you book your trip. Even if you’ll have a birthday before the trip starts or while the trip is in progress, you won’t be able to book the car in advance. We’re unable to make any exceptions.
  • I’ll be having a birthday before my trip starts and will no longer qualify as a young driver. Will I still have to pay the Young Driver fee?
Unless you are age 26 (in the US) or age 25 (everywhere else) at the time you book your trip, you must still pay the Young Driver fee. That’s true even if you’ll have a birthday before the trip starts or while the trip is in progress. We can’t prorate or refund a portion of the fee.
  • How old does someone have to be to be an additional driver on my trip?
As long as a driver creates a Turo account, gets approved to drive, and meets the age requirements listed above, the primary driver can request to have them added as a driver on the trip. Learn more about adding a driver to a trip.
  • Can I have the Young Driver fee waived?
Young Driver fees can’t be waived by Turo or by your host. We don’t offer discounts or waivers based on your personal insurance, driving record, automobile club affiliation, or other group memberships.
  • I’m old enough to book a car, but the system won’t let me. What can I do?
If you’re having problems booking a car, we suggest the following:
    • Check the value of the vehicle. Remember, guests in the US who are ages 18-20 can’t book a car that has a total market value of more than $20,000. There are also age restrictions for Deluxe, Super Deluxe, and speciality cars. Review those age guidelines above.
    • Try to resolve the problem on your own. The reason you weren’t allowed to book a car may not be because of your age. There may be another issue that is causing the difficulty. Read through this explanation of how to resolve problems booking a car.
